A Story Unfolding

Our living tradition is alive and present in our congregations. We will be invited to
reflect on how we can remain present and active in the unfolding process of our shared
story.

Rev. Tania Y. Márquez joined the Pacific Western Region Congregational Life Staff in 2024. With previous
experience in parish ministry and hospital chaplaincy. Tania lives in the San Diego area and has lived in the border region for most of her life, on both sides of the border. Her ministry is influenced by her fronteriza and immigrant experience. She believes in the healing power of words, rituals, and community.

She has a master’s degree from San Diego State University in Spanish Linguistics and Literature and an MDiv from Meadville Lombard Theological School. Rev. Tania was ordained into the Unitarian Universalist Ministry in 2017.

Rev. Tania served the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego from 2017-2021 where she led the monthly small group circles, pastoral care, and bilingual workshop. From 2021-2024 she worked as a Hospital Chaplain focusing in the areas of oncology and inpatient mental health. Her work with patients led her to focus on understanding the impact of trauma and, specifically, the processing and healing of trauma through somatic work. As a chaplain, she contributed to the implementation of an evidence-
based project to improve the attitudes and confidence of nurses providing end-of-life care.

She is excited about all the different ways in which we express our humanity, and loves the company of friends, family, the natural world, poetry, music, and Spirit.
